Project Progress

Project Week Project Hours
Mon, Apr 5 - Sun, Apr 11 6

This has a been a fun week in terms of project stuff. I've migrated all my blog setup and project files over to my new laptop. My existing project development environment is up and running using Visual Studio Code and the Firebase CLI. I also came across a new tool called the Node Version Manager (nvm) for Windows, which let's you install different versions of Node.js and switch between them. I also installed LibreOffice as a replacement for Microsoft Office. I use Excel to keep track of my time. I could have just used Google Sheets, but there's something about not being able to track time if I don't have access to the Internet that bothers me. I suppose I could temporarily just write an entry in Notepad or something until I have access to the Internet again. Anyways, I'm trying out LibreOffice to see how that is.

A more interesting thing I did was install WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) 2 onto my computer. I chose the Debian distribution. I've always been curious about it, since it can supposedly allow me to have a full Linux development experience without having to install Linux on a separate partition or spin up a VM. I'm more interested in getting docker working from there and then deploying an image I built to a cloud hosting provider like Digital Ocean.

I still have some more stuff to set up, like Postgres. I'm trying to go open source to save on costs, we'll see how that works out. By next week, I'll comment more about what project I'm currently working on.

Life

I'm still working on getting better sleep. I continue fluctuating between good and okay sleep. I want to say overall I'm getting better sleep, but I find getting to bed is difficult, because I'm trying to work on my project and exercise almost every weekday. When I do both, it usually means I'm going to get to bed later. Part of this is because I'm not stopping myself when I say I will. I'll have another go at being strict with cutoff times. I mean, the whole point of the habits thing is just putting any amount of time into something that I want to accomplish. I'm setting it at thirty minutes for each activity, which it doesn't have to be. Once, I add that flexibility, then I should be on my way to more restful sleep. I hope to report better results next week.
