Consistency and Natural Progression

My efforts to be more consistent has prompted me to refine the habits I engage in.

I finished my tutorial on practical merging in Git. As I'm writing more of these tutorials, I'm refining how I explain concepts. I'm taking more time to put in pictures to make my examples easier to follow. I suppose that's just a natural progression of trying to do something better. I find adding pictures or diagrams takes more time, but results in a better explanation, which makes the effort worthwhile.

The interesting part about this past week is that I felt like I did less, because I wasn't as consistent, but I actually did the same amount of work as previous weeks. I found it harder to cut off sessions at the thirty minute mark, because I wanted to finish off an explanation of an example. This usually involved me creating a diagram and then putting it all together with the words that supported the diagram.

Being less consistent was a nice break from the routine. In a previous post, I mentioned that a break inevitably comes at some point.

Life

I'm still consistent with my exercise routine. I look forward to it now, because it makes me feel good. I also started trying different exercises to help keep things interesting, but this seems to also be a natural progression towards doing something habitually. Once again, I'm refining what I habitually do. I never set out and said I was going to do that in the beginning, I just said I wanted to consistently exercise, that's it.

The next habit I want to tackle is getting to bed earlier. The goal is to get restful sleep every night, but with young children, sometimes that's out of my control. Although, once I establish that earlier sleep habit, then I'll get restful sleep as long as my kids don't get me up.

Habits aside, this week wrapped up really nicely. I spent this Sunday with my wife and kids in the nice weather. I was wearing a t-shirt outside and I wasn't cold. It was really nice being outside and making memories with my family. I hope everyone else had the opportunity to do the same.
